Laser-induced fluorescence combined with multivariate techniques identifies the geographical origin of antimalarial herbal plants

Abstract: Laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) combined with multivariate techniques has been used in identifying antimalarial herbal plants (AMHPs) based on their geographical origin. The AMHP samples were collected from four geographical origins (Abrafo, Jukwa, Nfuom, and Akotokyere) in the Cape Coast Metropolis, Ghana. LIF spectra data were recorded from the AMHP samples. Utilizing multivariate techniques, a training set for the first two principal components of the AMHP spectra data was modeled through the use of K-near… Show more

“…It is also known to show good performance for classifying high-dimensional data when a limited number of samples are available. 28,29 The performance of each model was evaluated according to sensitivity, specificity, error rates, accuracy and efficiency. These parameters were calculated using eqn (1)–(5) respectively.…”

“…Spectra. PeakFit software (4.12 version, Jandel Scientifc, Germany) was used to deconvolve each of the spectra into separate bands as was done in a previous study [26]. Te PeakFit software combined the Loess smoothing function and Marquardt-Levenberg and Lorentzian spectral functions for analyzing the LIAF spectra.…”

“…In India, more than 2500 plant species possess medicinal properties. According to the WHO, it is estimated that 20,000 different species of plants are used for developing various medicines around the globe [ 63 , 79 ], and these studies [ 56 , 57 , 58 , 80 , 81 , 82 , 83 , 84 , 85 , 86 , 87 , 88 , 89 , 90 , 91 , 92 , 93 , 94 , 95 , 96 , 97 ] were shown in Table 2 . Tripathi et al [ 85 ] determined the distribution of micro and macroelements in four Ocimum species: Ocimum basilicum , Ocimum sanctum , Ocimum gratissimum , and Ocimum americanum .…”
