Laser printing of conductive tracks with extremely low electrical resistance on polymer–carbon nanotubes composite: An optimization study of laser setup parameters by design of experiment approach

Abstract: Metal-free conductive tracks were obtained on polycarbonate/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (PC/ABS)-multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) nanocomposites by laser printing technology. Laser printing is a novel technique able to promote polymer pyrolysis leading to the formation of conductive tracks embedded on the surface of polymer-based nanocomposites. The resulting material is characterized by the presence of different not interactive conductive pathways. The aim of this article is to analyze the effect of the … Show more

“…Design of experiments (DOE) is widely used in research area to predict the properties, study the reaction, to optimize the process or reaction, and etc. [19][20][21] The design of experiments deals with evaluating factors responsible for controlling a parameter or a group of parameters by conducting controlled tests and thereby estimating the optimum processing condition. DOE helps to investigate either all possible combinations or a part of possible combinations.…”

“…Two primary methods for fabricating CNT wirings on plastic substrates directly, so-called the laser-induced forward transfer (LIFT) method 14 and the thermal fusion (TF) method [15][16][17][18] , have been reported. The LIFT method is a technology in which a material irradiated by a laser is transferred to a target substrate in proximity, thus achieving direct-write of CNT wiring independent of substrate materials 19 .…”

“…In addition, the LIFT method usually requires expensive pulsed lasers. In the TF methods, CNTs were mixed with polymers including polypropylene (PP), polycarbonate (PC), and epoxy in advance [15][16][17][18] . The composite was then locally heated using a laser to vaporize the polymers selectively.…”

“…[25] Additionally, CNs also have been widely used as laser absorbing filler to improve the processing performance and mechanical property of polymer composites in selective laser sintering and laser printing. [30][31][32][33] Graphene oxide (GO) is an important graphene derivative and is often used to form nanocomposites for its marvelous properties. [34,35] GO has been used as a synergy additive to modulate the laser ignition and combustion properties of porous NC bulk.…”
