“…The age of the Cretaceous magmatism is often constrained by stratigraphic correlations with the sedimentary formations in which volcanic or intrusive rocks are observed (Fig. 3;San Miguel de la Camara 1952;Rossy 1988;Castanares et al, 1997;López-Horgue et al, 1999;Castanares et al, 2001;López-Horgue et al, 2009). In Buzy (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), teschenites outcrop as sills intrusive in the Turonian flysch where they developed a hornblende-hornfels contact metamorphism aureole (Casteras et al, 1970).…”

“…The genus is generally restricted to the Cenomanian (LÖSER et al, 2002), but there are some indications from the Albian. BATALLER (1949) reported Aspidiscus cristatus from Zufia (Spain, Navarra), and LÓPEZ-HORGUE et al (1999) reported Aspidiscus sp. from a section of the same locality dated as middle Late Albian (Varicosum zone).…”

“…Both records are without description and illustration. According to LÓPEZ-HORGUE (written communication, February 2016) the specimen mentioned in LÓPEZ-HORGUE et al (1999) belongs to the genus Helladastraea that was for a long time considered synonymous with Aspidiscus (LÖSER, 2011b) but has a slightly longer stratigraphical range. Apart from this, only ABDEL-GAWAD and GAMEIL (1995) DHONDT & DIENI (1992) restrict this species to the Late Cenomanian.…”

“…The Cenomanian represents a time of abrupt change in the palaeoceanographic conditions in the BCB, which determined turnovers in the marine faunal composition (e. g. , López-Horgue et al, 1999). A period of progressive transgression that culminates during the Santonian and the change of subsidence led to the development of large shallow marine areas (Fig.…”
