“…, the Amaga basin samples fall as expected within the field defined by the NVZ (see compilation ofMarín-Cerón et al, 2019). It is worth noting that the Amaga Basin samples correspond to the most depleted part of the isotopic range observed along the Andes, suggesting limited crustal contamination during magma ascent and/or limited contribution of subducted sedimentary material to the mantle wedge.…”

“…As was the case for Sr and Nd isotopic data, the Amaga basin samples fall in the field defined by the northern volcanic zone and differ drastically from fields defined by central and southern volcanic zones(Fig. 11A) (see compilations made byMarín-Cerón, 2007 andMarín-Cerón et al, 2010;2019). The rather radiogenic values of Pb isotopes for the northern volcanic zone have been interpreted as being due either to an enriched mantle reservoir or to continental crust assimilation.…”

“…As stated by Marín-Cerón et al (2019), Neogene volcanism and hypabyssal porphyritic magmatism within Colombia's Central Cordillera is the product of an intricate evolution of the Nazca plate and its subduction history under the NW margin of continental South America. These authors suggest, that the evolution of the volcanic calc-alkaline arc starts in the mid-Miocene and continues up to nowadays.…”

“…Based upon the presence of adakite-like characteristics in the Neogene volcanic rocks of this region, Marín-Cerón et al (2019) proposed a model for the production of primary subductionrelated magmas, which includes dehydration/decarbonization and melting of the subducted plate. In this petrogenetic proposal, the lower crust promotes a significant effect upon rock composition during magma rise, and the possible retention of the primary mantle-derived magmas (including slab fluids/melts) within lower crustal magma chambers located along the entire volcanic arc.…”

“…There is an absence of volcanism in the Northern Cordillera of the Andes because of the shallow or blocked subduction of the Nazca Plate (Vargas and Mann, 2013). According to Marin‐Ceron et al (2019), there are 63 volcanoes in Colombia, of which 17 are active stratovolcanoes. Most of these are surrounded by densely populated areas with a long history of disasters, such as the eruption of the Nevado del Ruiz volcano on 13 November 1985, spawning the most catastrophic landslide in Colombia and the second largest volcanic disaster of the twentieth century.…”
