Late Weichselian and Holocene shoreline displacement in the Trondheimsfjord area, central Norway

Abstract: Shoreline displacement data from the Trondheimsfjord area have been collected and a synthesis of the Late Weichselian and Holocene relative uplift is presented. The isobase direction is N 30–35°E during the whole period. The gradients of the shorelines are 1.7? m/km at 11,800 years B.P., 1.3 m/km at 10,000 years B.P., gradually decreasing towards the present with a value of 0.2 m/km at 5,000 years B.P. Some irregularities in the shoreline gradient curve in the Late Weichselian and Preboreal chronozones may be … Show more

“…These gradients are comparable in magnitude to those found in completely deglaciated regions, e.g. Scandinavia (SW Sweden by Bjö rck & Digerfeldt (1991); western-central Norway by Kjemperud (1986); eastern Sweden by Berglund (2004)), but there they are directed towards the periphery of the former ice sheet. The opposite direction found here is the result of the incomplete deglaciation, i.e.…”

“…Ultimately, freshwater conditions were established in zone IA36d-5. The diatomological isolation (sensu Kjemperud, 1986) of the basin from saline conditions is first recorded at 12 590 AE 290 (15 907-13 865). Relative sea level still lay below the threshold at 10 110 AE 140 (12 337-11 227) and these conditions lasted until at least 8850 AE 150 (10 225-9548).…”
