“…Findings are somewhat in line with Rogers et al (2021), as we found similar profiles characterized by either higher sensation seeking and urgency or higher (lack of) premeditation/perseverance was supported. Further, we found two profiles, a low and moderate impulsivity, that were consistent with findings from Stamates et al (2021), The high sensation seeking/urgency profile was more likely to engage in SAM use relative to the low or moderate impulsivity profile. This finding is critical as individuals who endorse SAM use may be particularly vulnerable for reward- or emotion-based impulsivity, which may heighten their risk for hazardous use (Stamates & Lau-Barraco, 2017) as well as other additional nonsubstance use types of externalizing psychopathology (Carver & Johnson, 2018).…”

“…Rogers et al (2021) found a five-class solution, whereby the high lack of premeditation and perseverance profile reported the highest level of alcohol use (Rogers et al, 2021). Stamates et al (2021) revealed a three-class solution with the profile endorsing highest levels across all facets indicating the most alcohol-related consequences (Stamates et al, 2021). However, this research has not been extended to SAM use.…”

“…Stamates et al. found that individuals with high levels of impulsivity appear to have more significant negative internal and external motives for drinking ( 41 ). Moreover, high trait impulsivity, as measured with the BIS-11, may result in/from heavy drinking patterns in young social drinkers ( 42 ).…”
