Abstract: The β-barrel assembly machinery (BAM) mediates folding and insertion of the majority of OMPs in Gram-negative bacteria. BAM is a penta-heterooligomeric complex consisting of the central β-barrel BamA and four interacting lipoproteins BamB, C, D, and E.
