Launching of ships from horizontal berth by tipping tables – CFD simulation of wave generation

Abstract: The paper considers the side launching of ships from a horizontal berth by tipping tables. The launching process is split into the six phases and a system of nonlinear differential equations of motion is established. The system is solved using the finite difference method. The numerical calculations of the side launching of a large tanker are performed and the results are compared against the model test results. The generation of a high surface wave is simulated with CFD as a 2D problem. The numerical simulati… Show more

“…In the process of building a new ship, ship launching is one of the stages that will be passed before the ship is handed over to the ship owner. Ship launching is primarily influenced by various factors, including the transfer of ship weight from the block keel, waterline, land structure, and others, which is one of the supporting factors during the ship's construction itself [7].…”

“…Ship launching can generally be performed in longitudinal and lateral positions. In ISSN : 2085 -1669 Website : jurnal.umj.ac.id/index.php/jurtek e-ISSN : 2460 -0288 longitudinal ship launching, there are fewer launching structural components than in side launching [7]. Ship launching can be determined based on the type of building berth, the design of the ship's hull, and the launching weight of the ship.…”

“…The URANS approach has been successfully used in previous studies such as large-scale rotorcraft [3,4,15,14,16,17] and small-scale multicopters [18,19,20,21]. The overset mesh method in the flow solver OpenFOAM [22,23,24,25] is explored for the simulation of a quadcopter here. An overset mesh method is efficient in resolving multiple rotors simultaneously with a stationary fuselage [3,4,21,18].…”

“…Senjanovic et al [12] used the overlapping-mesh method to simulate the ship motion and surface waves of large oil tankers in lateral launching. It provided a more precise pre-diction of the amplitude and phase of the first wave.…”
