“…Taking the double [Ba 2 (BO 3 ) 2 ] 2– layer in Ba 2 Mg(BO 3 ) 3 and using the [Ba 2 Cl 2 ] 2– layer in the (111) direction of cubic BaCl 2 ( Fm 3̅ m ) as a spacer with both parts that have a common dimension in the joining plane (∼5.4 Å) (Figure ), we can expect to obtain an intergrowth compound with an ideal composition Ba 2 BO 3 Cl. Such intergrowth structures by joining the (111) plane of cubic BaCl 2 have been realized in many perovskite-related compounds . We tried to introduce such a principle to the trigonal borate structures, and finally, crystals with compositions of Ba 2 (BO 3 ) 1– x (CO 3 ) x Cl 1+ x were successfully grown from a high-temperature solution.…”

“…The four structures can be described from the stacking along the c axis of 2 for n=2, (hhhhh'h') for n=3, leading to hexagonal lattices (10H and 6H sequences respectively) and (hhchhh'h') 3 for n=4 and (hhcchhh'h') 3 for n=5 with rhombohedral lattice (21R and 24R sequences, respectively).…”

“…We have now prepared the chloride oxide Ba 5 Ta 2 Cl 2 O 9 , which is isotypic with Ba 5 Ru 1.6 W 0.4 Cl 2 O 9 (Hong & Sleight, 1997) and with one polymorph of Ba 5 Ru 2 Cl 2 O 9 (Tancret et al, 2004). Ba 5 Ta 2 Cl 2 O 9 is also structurally related to Ba 5 Ru-TaCl 2 O 9 (Wilkens & Mü ller-Buschbaum, 1991), which was refined in the non-centrosymmetric space group P6 3 22 due to differences in the O2 atomic coordinates.…”
