LDV Measurements of the Flow Field in the Nozzle Region of a Confined Double Annular Burner

Abstract: A database for the complex turbulent flow of a confined double annular burner in cold conditions is presented here. In the region close to the exit of the annular nozzles LDV measurements at 5515 grid points in the meridional plane were conducted. At each measurement position, validated data for 3000–16,000 particles were recorded, and the mean axial and radial velocities, axial and radial turbulence intensity and Reynolds stresses were computed. The resulting mean flow field is axisymmetric within an uncertai… Show more

“…Denoting hAEi as ensemble average, the normalized dispersion hjM À mji/m gives the percentage of uncertainty level (statistical error) in the estimate of mean quantities [30]. Table 3 Uncertainty levels of the cylinder pressure for different mixture strengths The estimated uncertainty levels of the measured cylinder pressure are given in Table 3.…”

“…The nonzero components of the mean velocity gradient tensor have been computed on the fine grid, so that the above procedure can be applied to test Boussinesq's hypothesis with the indicator ρ RS computed at each grid position. The data base is available online (http://stro9.vub.ac.be/expdata); a complete description is given in [29]. Figure 7 below shows the streamlines of the flow analyzed.…”

“…The horizontal cold chamber is constructed with a 386 mm inside diameter and 1200 mm long PVC tube. At the inlet, a section of the cylindrical wall measuring 400 mm along the circumference and 270 mm axially was removed and a 0,08 mm thick transparent window was installed to gain optical access, In this setup a commercial smoke generator was used for flow visualization and incense smoke was used to seed the flow for LDV measurement Descriptions of the model and test rig are given in Schmitt et al (2001),…”
