LEACH-GA: Genetic Algorithm-BasedEnergy-Efficient Adaptive Clustering Protocolfor Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract: This study proposes a genetic algorithm-based (GA-based) adaptive clustering protocol with an optimal probability prediction to achieve good performance in terms of lifetime of network in wireless sensor networks. The proposed GA-based protocol is based on LEACH, called LEACH-GA herein, which basically has set-up and steady-state phases for each round in the protocol and an additional preparation phase before the beginning of the first round. In the period of preparation phase, all nodes initially perform clus… Show more

“…The LEACH Protocol is randomly select the cluster head that is the drawback of this protocol. Genetic Algorithm based LEACH [LEACH-GA] is proposed [5], drawback of this protocol is, During Cluster Head Selection Process residual energy of the each node is not considered. The Intelligent Agent-based Routing [IAR] is proposed to develop the efficient data delivery [8].…”

“…So clustering Protocols are mainly designed for WSNs to improve data aggregation mechanism, Balance distribution of the energy load among sensor node. [3][4][5][6].It will increase the lifetime of Network. The clustering protocols are widely vary on nodes deployment, the network and radio models and network architecture.…”

“…The energy efficiency of routing protocols in WSN still remains an open challenge for research community 1 . There are several clustering and routing protocols were proposed in the literature for sensor networks [2][3][4] , for generating stable clusters and energy efficient routing path as a main objective. In the recent research many clustering and routing algorithms is formulated as optimization problems [16][17] .…”

“…However, various studies also proved that LEACH is not the appropriate protocol to mitigate the energy issues. Hence, this fact gave rise to various other research work addressing the similar energy issues using Artificial Neural Network [4], Genetic Algorithm [5], Fuzzy Logic [6], Swarm Intelligence [7], game theory [8] and many other advanced technologies. However, till date none of the prior studies has managed to optimize the cumulative network lifetime of the WSN.…”
