Lead-Flux Growth of Eu 4 Ir 8 As 7 Crystals. -Single crystals of the title compound are grown from the elements in a lead flux (1370 K, 100 h). Eu4Ir8As7 crystallizes with the Ca4Ir8P7-type structure in space group P21/m with Z = 2 (single crystal XRD). The Ir and As atoms build a complex three-dimensional, covalently bonded [Ir8As7] network with Ir-As distances of 239-260 pm. Each Ir atom has three or four As neighbors in slightly distorted trigonal-planar or tetrahedral coordination. The four crystallographically independent Eu atoms fill cavities within the [Ir8As7] network. The structure is described as an intergrowth variant of CaBe2Ge2-, TiNiSi-, and AlB2-related slabs. -(PFANNENSCHMIDT, U.; POETTGEN*, R.; Z. Naturforsch., B: Chem.
