In this paper, the bipartite consensus problem is addressed via adaptive event-triggered control for multi-agent systems in directed communication networks, where cooperative and competitive interactions are considered simultaneously. Under a strongly connected digraph, a novel fully distributed control protocol is first put forward, which consists of an adaptive controller and two event-triggered mechanisms. The protocol is flexible and capable of achieving bipartite consensus without employing global information. Meanwhile, the Zeno behavior cannot occur by embedding L p functions in the event-triggered mechanisms. Furthermore, a general digraph with a spanning tree is investigated, and it is shown that the proposed protocol is still effective in bipartite consensus including the leader-follower one as a special case. It is worth noting that there is no need for the protocol to continuously update the controller, nor to maintain the uninterrupted communication with neighbors. Finally, the validity of the presented results is confirmed by simulations.

This paper investigates the containment control problem of linear multiagent systems (MASs) with multiple non‐autonomous leaders on a directed graph. First, an event‐triggered compensator is designed for each follower to estimate the convex combination of non‐autonomous leaders' states. The compensator is designed with the following three features: (1) It can estimate the convex combination of non‐autonomous leaders' states over directed graphs; (2) it is fully distributed; and (3) the designed event‐triggered mechanisms (ETMs) are composite dynamic ETMs, and each follower does not have to monitor the sampling errors continuously. Then, a state observer is developed for each follower based on the output feedback. Based on the designed compensator and state observer, an event‐triggered controller is developed, ensuring that each follower's state converges exponentially to an arbitrarily small neighborhood centered on the convex combination of leaders' states. Additionally, the proposed DETMs are free of Zeno behavior. Finally, the effectiveness of the developed control protocol is verified by two simulation examples.

This paper investigates the consensus tracking of multi‐agent systems (MASs) with general linear dynamics and directed graphs via observer‐based event‐triggered (ET) control. For each follower, a dynamic event‐triggered (DET) unknown input observer (UIO) is constructed to estimate the relative states, which utilizes the discrete relative output information among neighboring agents, and the estimate errors can exponentially converge to zero. Then, an observer‐based DET controller, which has the superiority of reducing the communication burden, is presented. Unlike most existing works, a dual ET mechanism of observer and controller is proposed, whose triggering functions are independent of each other. In addition, the time‐varying item in the triggering functions is further extended to be a class of positive functions, including some existing exponential functions as its special cases. Under the proposed DET UIO and DET control protocol, it is rigorously demonstrated that consensus tracking can be achieved asymptotically, and Zeno behavior is ruled out. Finally, a numerical example is provided to verify the validity of the results.
