Leadership Readiness In K-12 International Schools

Abstract

Supported by scholarly references and a background literature review, this chapter is an original summary highlighting key factors, challenges, and case studies surrounding leadership readiness in K-12 international schools. The key factors include understanding leadership in K-12 international schools, qualities and characteristics of effective school leaders, leadership development programs, challenges and barriers to leadership readiness, cultivating leadership readiness through professional development, the role of mentoring and coaching in leadership readiness, and leadership succession planning. The case studies involve four different K-12 international schools highlighting real-life results that address the aforementioned key factors with cited references for further investigation. As the chapter comes to a close, several additional current readings are recommended to continue research regarding leadership readiness in K-12 international schools.
