This study investigates the effect of the COVID-19 global pandemic on the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and a firm’s sustainability. Prior studies on related topics empirically argue that CSR activities are highly likely to positively impact corporate sustainability. If this is true, firms that engage in CSR activities should demonstrate a higher degree of sustainability than their counterparts during the recent COVID-19 global pandemic. Using a sample of 390 Korean listed companies from 2019 to 2020, we find that CSR has no significant relationship with firm value variations as a proxy for sustainability during the COVID-19 global pandemic period. Our findings suggest that firms that engage in more active CSR activities do not appear to mitigate the market risk associated with the COVID-19 global pandemic compared to their counterparts who engage in less active CSR activities. That is, CSR does not provide a significant cushion that alleviates a firm’s market risk exposure, as heralded by COVID-19. Unlike previous studies that argue that CSR has positive effects on sustainability, our studies suggest that CSR’s impact on sustainability seems to be significantly lowered when uncontrollable market risks occur. It is important to note that this study has methodological limitations in that it was analyzed using proxy variables for CSR and sustainability measurement in Korea. For future studies, it would be insightful to expand the CSR concept to ESG and conduct research using longer-term data in the post-pandemic era.

Financial support is the basic need of a society to fulfil its economic requirements. But due to the limited resources, it is not possible for the governments of poor countries to perform sustainable tasks for the betterment of human society. This paper examines the significance of social entrepreneurs who establish their businesses to resolve social, cultural, or environmental issues while taking higher financial risks. This act of social entrepreneurship is the novelty of this study. Moreover, this study adds to the body of knowledge by contrasting the Islamic perspective of Social Entrepreneurship with contemporary thoughts. The science-direct and google-scholars databases have been used for reviewing the data collection. The study may provide a benchmark to assist government policymakers. This paper is also discussing the Islamic perspective of social entrepreneurship.

Amaç: Çalışmanın amacı dijital dönüşümün temel unsuru olan açık kaynak kodlu yazılım kabiliyetlerinin benimsenmesinin işletmelerdeki değer oluşturma ve yapısal değişiklik dijital dönüşüm stratejilerine etkisinin incelenmesi ve işletmelere sürdürülebilir, verimli ve rekabet edilebilir bir dijital dönüşüm perspektifi sunmaktır. Yöntem: Ampirik yöntemin belirlendiği bu çalışmada bilişim teknolojileri departmanı olan 200 firmanın üst düzey yöneticilerine anket uygulanarak nicel veri toplanmış ve bu verilerin demografik betimsel analizleri, güvenirlik ve geçerlilik analizleri, normallik testleri yapılarak regresyon analizleri gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bulgular: Açık kaynak kodlu entegrasyon ile ilgili kabiliyetler dijital dönüşümde değer oluşturma stratejilerini anlamlı olarak açıklarken, insan kaynakları ve yönetim ile ilgili kabiliyetlerin dijital dönüşüm değer oluşturma stratejisi ile ilişkileri istatistiksel olarak destek bulmamıştır. Açık kaynak kodlu entegrasyon ve yönetim kabiliyetlerinin dijital dönüşümün yapısal değişiklik stratejisini anlamlı bir şekilde yordadığı görülürken, insan kaynakları kabiliyetinin anlamlı bir ilişkisi olmadığı ölçümlenmiştir. Özgünlük: Literatür dikkate alındığında, yapılan bu araştırmada açık kaynak kodlu yazılım adaptasyon kabiliyetleri ve dijital dönüşümün stratejileri ele alınarak aralarındaki ilişkiler temel yaklaşımlar çerçevesinde bütüncül olarak incelenmiş, böylece geçmiş araştırmalardaki ürün ve sektörel yaklaşımların dikkate almadığı işletmeler bazındaki stratejik perspektif yakalanmıştır. Ayrıca dinamik kabiliyetler teoremi çerçevesinde açık kaynak kodlu yazılım kabiliyetleri ile dijital dönüşüm stratejeilerinin değerlendirilmesi çalışmanın toerik katkısını oluşturmaktadır.
