Lean Six Sigma for Sustainable Business Practices: A Case Study and Standardisation

Abstract: Lean Six Sigma (LSS) modifies the DMAIC approach by emphasizing speed. Lean focuses on streamlining a process by identifying and removing non-value added steps. A leaned production process eliminates waste. The target metrics, which affect any business include zero wait time, zero inventory, scheduling using customer pull, cutting batch sizes to improve flow, line balancing, and reducing overall process time. Lean Six Sigma's goal is to produce quality products that meet customer requirements as efficiently an… Show more

“…Anand and Kodali [25] developed a conceptual framework for lean manufacturing system implementation. Klochkov, Gazizulina, and Muralidharan [26] presented various lean performance characteristics to increase the efficiency of the manufacturing process of the casing of a water pump. In this study, only the technological aspects of the manufacturing process were covered to eliminate waste using lean manufacturing concepts such as value stream mapping, 7 wastes, and 5S under a six sigma environment.…”

“…In the first, of the B2B papers found in WOS, despite the successive filters applied to the databases, half study retail companies, and only three papers can be considered to study Omnichannel Management in a way that is more generally applicable to the supply chain [44,45,46]. When a bibliographic method is used, of the Omnichannel Management papers, only ten are applicable to the general field of study, and only five of these are applicable to the specific scope sought [27,47,48], with none matching with the WOS search. Similarly, of the papers that can be considered foundational to the study of Omnichannel strategies for B2B (co-citation analysis), only six address areas outside retail.…”

“…The major common aspects of lean six sigma are waste minimization, continuous improvement, and customer satisfaction [52]. Since waste also includes rework and scrap which are often produced as a result of process variability, thereby, lean and six sigma are also connected [53]. Several organizations are developing a concurrent lean six sigma (LSS) approach, which integrates lean with six sigma as they contribute to a common objective of waste minimization [54].…”
