Learning-based Physical Layer Communications for Multiagent Collaboration

Abstract: Consider a collaborative task carried out by two autonomous agents that can communicate over a noisy channel. Each agent is only aware of its own state, while the accomplishment of the task depends on the value of the joint state of both agents. As an example, both agents must simultaneously reach a certain location of the environment, while only being aware of their own positions. Assuming the presence of feedback in the form of a common reward to the agents, a conventional approach would apply separately: (i)… Show more

“…In this section, we evaluate our proposed schemes via numerical results for the popular rendezvous problem, in which the inter-agent communication channel is set to have a limited rate. To find the details of the rendezvous problem, please refer to [9]. The system operates in discrete time, with agents taking actions and communicating in each time step t = 1, 2, ... .…”

“…In [12], [13], cooperative MARL is used to emerge a coding scheme by joint learning of communication and cooperation to solve a task with the help of a noisy communication channel. The proposition of both works is to emerge a coding scheme that is tailored to the application.…”
