Learning before doing: utilising a co‐operative role play for quality management in a virtual organisation

Abstract: Learning by doing can be costly, the more so the more complex the systems involved – just think of products such as space shuttles and organisations such as big supplier networks. Entering all new situations requires some learning, and in some situations learning can take place in a non‐cost environment in the form of simulations and role plays. This paper presents a methodology developed at the University of Kosice for managing quality systems in virtual organisations. The paper shows the principles, assumpti… Show more

“…This is how the theory can be summarized. In a wider sense, continuous improvements are the systems that allow the produce to conform to the highest world standards, such as Total Quality Control (TQC), Just-in-Time System, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Hoshin Kanri -Policy Deployment, Kaizen suggestion system, Small groups' involvement (Gastev, 1972;Zgodavova, Kosc and Kekale, 2001;(Dahlgaard-Park, 2015). These particular systems provide the framework for production systems' development.…”

“…In response to the needs on innovation education in way to improve students' employability higher education institutions had implemented work-integrated learning programs (Hardman and Averweg, 2011;Zgodavová, Kosc and Kekäle, 2001). As is stated in "Exploring 21 st Century Skills" (Clarity innovation, 2013), collaboration becomes essential in teaching 21st Century Skills, because students who collaborate also increase their skills in problem-solving, creativity, and interpersonal relationships.…”

“…Overcoming the resistance against change should be equally included among new skills (Zgodavova, 2009). The resistance arises as a natural human reaction to change and often prevents the onset and exploitation of new methods and new tools (Reger, et al, 1994;Zgodavova, et al, 2001). The involvement of an individual in a particular situation leads to such modification of the environment that it reflects actual abilities of the participants.…”
