Research at the interface of corporate entrepreneurship (CE) and family firms’ domains has grown steadily based on the premise that family firms’ specific elements uniquely affect CE antecedents, strategies, and outcomes. However, much remains to be uncovered. In this article, we offer a theoretical advancement of a corporate entrepreneurship process model for the case of family firms organized around the categories of ontology (i.e., domain redefinition), epiphany (i.e., new components and mechanisms), and heterogeneity (i.e., family firm variety and contingencies). This development paves the way for an agenda for future research and for possible generalizations to non‐family firms.

What makes some families more entrepreneurial than others? How are they able to nurture entrepreneurship across generations? These are fundamental questions for family business and entrepreneurship research. In particular, the multigenerational dimension of entrepreneurial families (EFs) and the new family logics that emerge as the family grows may lead to different types of entrepreneurial activities. To shed light on these questions, we conduct a systematic literature review of 90 peer-reviewed articles focusing on the characteristics and behaviours of EFs, family members and their business activities. Specifically, we first identify and categorise the family-related factors characterising EFs across generations. Second, we link the identified factors to different types of entrepreneurial activities pursued as the generations advance, distinguishing two dimensions: mode of organising (internal vs. external), and degree of relatedness (related vs. unrelated). Finally, we highlight the main gaps in the literature and provide a future research agenda.

Corporate accelerators (CAs) have become increasingly popular in both research and practice. In the past, analyses of CAs have centered on organizations in general, but those analyses focused on the particularities of CAs rather than the firms’ contexts. With regard to firm-specific contexts, a growing number of family firms in Germany have started CAs in recent years. Family firms are known for their idiosyncrasies due to the family’s involvement, which is argued to affect cooperation between family firms and start-ups. We claim that CAs also differ in the context of family firms. Taking a family firm specific perspective on corporate entrepreneurship, we argue that the design of family firms’ CAs is influenced by these firms’ idiosyncrasies. By connecting this perspective with general CA design dimensions, we conceptually derive family firm specific CA designs and discuss their implications for CAs in general and for CAs in the context of family firms.
