Abstract. The effect and mechanism of green corrosion inhibitor of Morinda Citrifolia (Noni) toward low carbon steel material has been researched. The general background is to develop the cheap and eco-friendly corrosion inhibitor based on components taken from tropical plants that grow +in Indonesia. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the use of the extracts of noni as green corrosion inhibitor of carbon steel material in aggressive environment. The medium applied for this experiment is 3.5% natrium chloride solution. The variation of the concentration and immersion time duration has been applied as the experimental parameters. All the work was done at room temperature. The corrosion rate was measured by electrochemical polarization method with CMS 600-Gamry instruments and weight loss. The adsorption of inhibitor into the metal surface, which induced bonding formation after immersion was observed by using FTIR method. Inhibition mechanism was observed by polarization curves and fitted by the Langmuir adsorption models. The experimental results show that the higher concentration of inhibitor increasing the inhibition effect. The optimum inhibition is obtained at 3 ppm noni fruit extract, after immersion for about 288 hours. The corrosion rates obtained was 1.385 mpy, with the inhibitor efficiency of 76.92%. The monolayer film is formed coating the surface material as a result of mixed type corrosion inhibitor behavior of Noni. It can be concluded that this green inhibitor is effective to be used for low carbon steel material.

The antimicrobial activities of ethanolic extract of the Nerium oleander have been screened by anti-bacterial action against Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumonie and Escherichia coli utilizing the disc diffusion test. An endeavor was additionally made to enhanced the antimicrobial activity of the ethanolic extract of Nerium oleander by blending of TiO 2 nanoparticles with Nerium oleander extract. In view of the general results, the ethanolic extract of Nerium oleander enhanced by TiO 2 Nps demonstrated the most activities against a wide range of tested bacteria, yet the ethanolic extract alone was observed to be dynamic against the S. aureus and E. coli, while a powerless antibacterial activity was observed against the ethanolic extract demonstrate a K. pneumonie. Inhibition efficiency increased with increasing concentration of the ethanolic extract of and also with enhanced by TiO 2 Nps. The inhibition zone at the concentration 300 mg/mL in presence and absence of TiO 2 NPs were 21 mm and 24 mm against Staphylococcus aureus and against Klebsiella pneumonie were 12 mm and 25 mm, finally for Escherichia coli were 23 mm and 29 mm respectively.

Corrosion inhibition of aluminum (6061) in aqueous solution at pH 11 by o-nitrophenolZn 2+ systems has been reported. The study was carried out using classical weight loss method, potentiodynamic polarization study and Fourier Transform Infra-red Spectrocopy (FTIR) Technique. Experimental results indicated that the presence of o-nitrophenol-Zn 2+ inhibit the corrosion of Al(6061). The inhibition efficiency (IE) has been determined by the classical weight loss method. The maximum inhibition efficiency offered by the onitrophenol 250 ppm and Zn 2+ 50 ppm system is 94%. To determine the values of Linear polarization resistance (LPR) and corrosion current (I corr ), potentiodynamic polarization study has been used and it reveal that the inhibitor act as anodic inhibitor and it controls the anodic reaction. The protective film has been characterized by FTIR, SEM, EDAX and AFM. The protective film consists of Al 3+ -o-nitrophenol complex on the anodic metal surface. By using Density Functional Theory (DFT) various quantum chemical parameters such as E HOMO (highest occupied molecular orbital energy), E LUMO (lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy), energy gap (ΔE), electron affinity (A), ionization potential (I), absolute electronegativity (χ), global hardness (η), softness (S), fraction of electrons transferred (ΔN) have been calculated and discussed. The theoretical results were found to be consistent with the experimental data generated. The inhibition efficiency of the inhibitor is evaluated by weight loss method.
