Lebensmittelbedingte Infektionen durch Campylobacter

Abstract: Zusammenfassung Die akute Campylobacterinfektion verläuft als selbstlimitierende Enteritis. Show more

“…However, studies in the UK, USA and Canada (Quebec) did not detect such seasonal influence (Humphrey et al., 1993; Nadeau et al., 2002), probably due to variable temperature and UV intensity in the environment as well as seasonal variable density of Campylobacter in healthy carriers (waterfowl, rodents, insects, etc.) (Kist, 2002).…”

“…They are among the most frequently reported causes of bacterial gastroenteritis in humans in many developed and developing countries around the world (Bhaduri & Cottrell, 2004). The disease is caused by Campylobacter jejuni or, less commonly, Campylobacter coli , and must be regarded as an emerging disease (Coker et al , 2002; Kist, 2002). The pathogen is widespread in the environment, but can multiply only in living organisms (e.g.…”

“…Quorum sensing plays an important role in C. jejuni colonization as it can regulate the expression of multiple genes involved in virulence, toxin production, motility, chemotaxis, and biofilm formation, thus contributing to environmental adaptation [ 21 ]. Bacterial adhesion to and invasion into epithelial gastrointestinal cells are considered as a primary cause of tissue damage in humans [ 22 ]. In order to adhere to cells, the mucus layer has to be crossed, for which the highly motile bacteria are well equipped.…”
