Abstract: LAFI determination in HFrEF stable outpatients is a predictor of long-term survival and provides increased prognostic value over a wide range of confounder risk factors.

“…[1][2][3] However, both LV and left atrial (LA) dysfunction and remodelling likely occur in concert, and contribute to the poor prognosis in HFrEF. [4][5][6][7] In addition, chronic therapies directly targeting the myocardium are lacking and prior attempts have been fraught with safety concerns owing to dependency on Ca 2+ and/or second-messenger signalling. 2,3,8,9 A new drug class, direct cardiac myosin activators or myotropes, offers the potential to circumvent these prior limitations.…”

“…LAFI can be derived using LA and LV measures obtained routinely as part of standard 2‐dimensional echocardiography . Recent data suggest that LAFI is strongly associated with risk for developing AF recurrence, heart failure, and stroke in select CVD‐based samples . We recently reported on the distribution of LAFI as well as its clinical and echocardiographic correlates in the community‐based FHS (Framingham Heart Study) Offspring Cohort .…”

[22][23][24][25] We recently reported on the distribution of LAFI as well as its clinical and echocardiographic correlates in the community-based FHS (Framingham Heart Study) Offspring Cohort. 26 In the current investigation, we related LAFI to incident AF and CVD in FHS Offspring participants and assessed its incremental contribution to prediction of these outcomes.…”

“…Anatomical and functional assessment of the left atrium (LA) have become an increasingly important part of cardiac examination, with LA size and function proved as independent predictors of survival and exercise performance in heart failure [1][2][3]. The LA function, both as a conduit and an active pump, significantly contributes to left ventricular (LV) filling as well as stroke volume.…”
