Abstract: This study reports the parameters a and b of the length-weight relationships for seven fish species (Gobius niger, Mesogobius batrachocephalus, Mullus barbatus, Neogobius melanostomus, Raja clavata, Scorpaena porcus, Uranoscopus scaber) from the southeastern Black Sea.

“…For all of the species presented in this paper, b values were generally in agreement with results from fishes in the same family obtained from other geographical areas (Moutopoulos and Stergiou, 2002; Demirhan and Can, 2007). The length–weight and length–length regressions for eight of the 10 species studied here are also available in FishBase (Froese and Pauly, 2005), and two species, S. longispinis and S. thompsoni , are given for the first time in the present study.…”

“…(). For the thornback ray we found similar values to the specimens from the eastern Atlantic area (Borges et al., ; Torres et al., ), eastern Mediterranean (Yeldan and Avsar, ; Başusta et al., ) and Black Sea (Demirhan et al., ; Demirhan and Can, ), but different from those in the Azores archipelago (Rosa et al., ). Finally, our values for allometric growth of the marbled electric ray were higher than those found in the literature (e.g.…”

“…Black scorpion fish, Scorpaena porcus (Linnaeus, 1758), inhabit the eastern Atlantic, the southern British Isles, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea (Aksiray, 1987; Mater et al., 1989). The species is found at depths of 1–100 m (Aksiray, 1987; Mater et al., 1989; Demirhan and Can, 2007). Water mixing is limited to the uppermost 100–150 m in the Black Sea, with water below the pycnocline zone being exchanged only once every one thousand years (Brewer and Murray, 1973; Michaelis et al., 2002).…”
