Leptomeningeal metastasis from de novo metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma: a case report

Abstract: Background: Leptomeningeal metastasis (LM) have a poor prognosis and rare studies have reported LM from nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) was the standard first line treatment for metastatic NPC and was reported to improve intracranial response and survival in several types of cancer.Case description: In this case presentation, we present a case of a 26-year-old man with de novo metastatic NPC who initially complained of left cervical masses. A PET/CT and MRI scan revealed multi… Show more

“… 20 As for NPC, there is only one case reported that LM happened after initial ICIs regimen and radiotherapy, but it lacks the evidence of CSF cytology. 21 Therefore, data on leptomeningeal metastasis of NPC are still limited. In this patient, although immunotherapy was effective in controlling the primary lesion, meningeal metastasis still occurred.…”

“… 22 As for nasopharyngeal carcinoma, it is reported that whole brain radiotherapy combined with oral capecitabine is effective in a case of LM of NPC. 21 A combination of local therapy and systemic chemotherapy might have therapeutic potential in these patients with LM. More investigation is required to identify optimal clinical choice among different treatments.…”
