Breastfeeding initiation and duration has been positively associated with the level of maternal education (Lande et al, 2003), maternal age (Noirhomme and Noirhomme, 2009), a variety of birth setting practices (Foster and McLachlan, 2007), mother’s early decision to breastfeed her infant (Donath and Amir, 2003) and access to generous statutory maternity leave programs (Noble and the ALSPAC study team, 2001). On the contrary, maternal smoking (Amir, 2001), maternal overweight and obesity (Oddy et al, 2006), as well as early return to work (Baker and Milligan, 2008; Ryan et al, 2006), all have been negatively related to breastfeeding duration.…”
