“…With a few rare exceptions, the studies are less deliberately focused on prosopographical analyses, even though those exist through the sociology of positions in the socialist party's debates on the referendum for the constitutional treaty (Juhem et al, 2007). There is a body of research that proves very reliable in order to perceive agents or groups whose mobilizations have direct effects on European processes, for example the history and sociology of federalist groups (Weisbein, 2006(Weisbein, , 2007a, 'alternative globalization' (alter-mondalisation) groups (Agrikoliansky, 2007) and hunting lobbies, and, on a more general level, middle-and low-income groups in rural areas (Mischi, 2007), socialist parties (Juhem et al, 2007;Treille, 2007) Catholic groups, and reformers (Lozac'h, 2007;Dakowska, 2007). 6 These various studies lead to a different conception of the opposition that exists between structures/agencies.…”

“…Commercial consultancy in Brussels is a good example, as more than 50% of them are lawyers (Lahusen 2002). But the same could be said about European Commissioners (Mac Mullen 1997), high‐ranking Commission officials (Georgakakis and de Lassalle 2007), or the members of the recent Convention for the Future of Europe (Cohen 2006), not to mention pan‐European activists themselves (Weisbein 2006). One could, of course, argue that this legal capital of European elites only mirrors the deep‐rooted “incestuous” relationship between law and the State in European countries, as well as the fact that law schools remain an essential breeding ground for national elites.…”
