The International Union of Muslim Scholars, headquartered in Qatar, is an organisation of Muslim jurists founded in 2004 by Yūsuf al-Qaraḍāwī and led today by Aḥmad al-Raysūnī. Despite its importance in the current religious-political discourse in the Muslim world and beyond, this organisation received little attention from scholars, and no study to date has been dedicated to examine its claims and practices of authority. The central thesis of this paper is that the jurists of IUMS are religious and political authorities who: 1. embrace a wide range of “umma” issues, which allow IUMS to appear as the “authentic” and “autonomous” “guardian” of Islam; 2. play a role in international relations (ranging from Chad to China) as “supporters” of particular political actions; 3. negotiate a new type of religious authority embodied by the scholar-activist who emerged as a reaction to the deep religious and political transformations in the Sunni world. To conduct this case study, I approached IUMS from the perspective of sociology of religion (with a focus on the problem of authority) and relied on qualitative methods of analysis (contextualisation, descriptive discourse analysis, in particular), inspecting the local context of IUMS in Qatar as well the global context of umma politics, and using Arabic sources available on its website.

“…Problematyka par mieszanych, zanim dotarła do Francji kontynentalnej, była podejmowana w kontekście kolonialnym. Pierwsze publikacje jej poświęcone mają charakter statystyczny i zajmują się małżeństwami zawartymi w Algierii, wtedy departamencie francuskim, między Francuzami i Francuzami muzułmanami (Marchand, 1954;Albou, 1957). Po nich powstały pierwsze analizy statystyczne na terenie Francji kontynentalnej, które, podobnie jak wiele badań przeprowadzonych w Stanach Zjednoczonych (Kennedy, 1952), dotyczą procesu asymilacji imigrantów w społeczeństwie francuskim.…”

‘Pary mieszane’ we Francji. Od integracji imigrantów poprzez małżeństwo po badania nad różnorodnością małżeńską

Pary międzynarodowe lub mieszane cieszą się dużym zainteresowaniem, zarówno wśród ogółu społeczeństwa, jak i w badaniach z zakresu nauk humanistyczno-społecznych. Jednakże studia dotyczące par mieszanych nie są ujednolicone, a podejścia i terminologia różnią się od siebie. Temat ten jest czasem poruszany przez socjologię migracji, innym razem przez socjologię rodziny lub religii. Istnieje również silny rozdział między badaniami ilościowymi i jakościowymi. W artykule omówiono pojawienie się tego kierunku badań we Francji przed zaproponowaniem koncepcji „różnorodności małżeńskiej”. Ta ostatnia ma na celu określenie specyfiki małżeństw mieszanych w trzech wymiarach: przekraczanie obowiązujących norm małżeńskich, etnokulturowa nierówność między małżonkami i ustalenia międzykulturowe mające na celu urzeczywistnienie ich życia małżeńskiego. Zbadanie tego zjawiska nie jest łatwe, ponieważ kategorie analizy i reprezentacja par w badaniach są obecne w różnorodny sposób. Zaświadcza się jednak, że wzrasta liczba małżeństw mieszanych zarejestrowanych we francuskich rejestrach stanu cywilnego (27% małżeństw w 2015 r.), które są kontrolowane i starannie zbierane przez państwo. Jakościowa analiza tego zjawiska nakłania do uznania, że płeć oraz wymiary etnokulturowe i społeczne prowadzą do krzyżujących się układów, które zasługują na intersekcjonalne zbadanie swojej specyfiki. Pary mieszane są dziś zjawiskiem ogólnoświatowym. We Francji, jak i w innych krajach, ujawniają one presję logiki wspólnotowej w obliczu bardziej zindywidualizowanych wyborów życiowych.
