“…The few studies that have been dedicated to this (de Cock and Heimberg, 2014;Brown, 2014), suggest that certain negative reactions around the teaching of the Holocaust have been documented in France, particularly among young people from Muslim backgrounds living in disadvantaged areas, who see this reminder of the past through the prism of contemporary issues, in particular the Israeli-Palestinian conflict (Brenner, 2015). Several studies suggest however that, overall, incidents relating to this teaching remain limited, both in France and elsewhere, in Sweden, Belgium, or Switzerland for example (Bonafoux, de Cock-Pierrepont and Falaize, 2007;Grandjean, 2016;Eckmann and Heimberg, 2011 36 ). “…From a sociological perspective, several authors have detailed the importance of analysing this dialectical relationship between the laws and the memories (Savelsberg and King, 2007), in particular, from the perspective of international law (Hirsch, 2015). Next to purely legal public instruments, the public authorities may also shape collective memories, particularly through educational policies (Grandjean, 2014; Hirsch and Kacandes, 2004; Oeser, 2010).…”
