PurposeThe present qualitative paper examined the changes in students' motivation before and after lesson study for learning community implementation at a primary school in Singapore.Design/methodology/approachStudent focus group discussions (FGDs) were conducted with six students from each of the classes involved in the research lessons. Students were asked specific questions relating to the research lessons and teachers.FindingsFindings suggest that there are some changes in students' perception of classroom climate and their motivation to learn after the implementation of lesson study for learning community. Together with self-determination theory, lesson study for learning community may be viewed as a social and collaborative model as well as a supportive learning climate, promoting students' adaptive outcomes and needs satisfaction.Research limitations/implicationsTeachers need to be provided support to plan their lessons and to become familiar with the lesson study for learning community approach. There is also a major challenge of teacher “buy-in” whether they would undertake the practice of lesson study for learning community voluntarily.Originality/valueThis study provides evidence of the existence of an approach via listening pedagogy for the teaching of listening that focuses on students' motivation to listen and learn in class.

This study explores the relationship between planned behaviour, i.e. attitude towards behaviour, subjective norm and perceived behavioural control and coherence towards intention to enrich the literature - Vietnamese students studying abroad at university. In addition, the study also explores the factors related to family cohesion to the intention of Vietnamese students to study abroad. This study was conducted through a cross-sectional survey using a targeted sampling technique (n=350). The SEM model was used to test the hypotheses. The SEM model proved that: The decisive factor affects the intention to study abroad with the coefficient of Regression Weight = 0.222. The subjective norm factor (norm) affects the intent variable with the coefficient of Regression Weight = 0.138; The behavioural intention control factor affects the intent factor with Regression Weights = 0.276; The factor through family cohesion (cohesion) affects the intent factor with Regression Weights = 0.159. The conclusions of this study provide valuable data for study abroad managers, universities, study abroad consulting service providers and families who want to invest in their children to study abroad.

The present research is about improving collaborative writing skills enhancement through the use of StoryJumper. The work aims to know the impact of using StoryJumper as a technological resource implemented to develop the EFL students’ collaborative writing skills. The sample was 27 English students who were enrolled in the second year of Bachillerato in a public institution of Loja. These students were divided randomly into two groups; the experimental and the control group. It was an experimental study aided by a qualitative and quantitative analysis through the use of pre-tests, post-tests, class observations, and student surveys. The instruments used to gather the data were a writing placement test, a writing achievement test, a rubric, an observation sheet, and a questionnaire. The data obtained helped to know the effectiveness of using StoryJumper in collaborative narrative writing and the students’ perceptions of using this platform. Finally, the findings revealed that the students reached a good improvement in the development of their narrative writing skills in addition to their remarkable motivation for the practice and development of their collaborative writing skills after the use of the StoryJumper.
