Abstract:AimKlotho, a key component of the endocrine fibroblast growth factor receptor—fibroblast growth factor axis, is a multi‐functional protein that impacts renal electrolyte handling. The physiological significance of Klotho will be highlighted in the regulation of calcium, phosphate, and potassium metabolism.MethodsIn this review, we compare several murine models with different renal targeted deletions of Klotho and the insights into the molecular and physiological function that these models offer.ResultsIn vivo,… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
