The chapter “Developing Educational Leaders Within an EdD Redesign that Focuses on School Improvement” explores the shift in EdD programs to align with the principles and framework of improvement science. The chapter provides a historical overview of the Doctor of Education (EdD), explains the components of improvement science, including problem of practice, root cause analysis, and iterative testing, and highlights the role of data-informed decision-making and collaborative approaches in educational settings. Also discussed is the impact of CPED guidelines on the UT Tyler EdD program, with specific emphasis on the significance of the Dissertation in Practice (DiP) in bridging theory and practice. The authors explore how, by embedding these elements within an EdD program, future educational leaders are equipped to address complex challenges, implement effective interventions, and drive continuous school improvement.
