“…Docetaxel, a taxane with activity against a wide range of cancers, has as its most common side effects myelosuppression, alopecia, neurotoxicity, and fluid retention. The rarest complication is pulmonary injury, of which about 30 cases have been reported in the literature to date (115), although Grande et al (6) affirmed that grade 3–4 toxicity may range from 7% to 47%. The exact mechanism by which docetaxel exerts a toxic effect on the lungs is not known: it is hypothesized that the drug induces proliferation of cytotoxic T cells against specific pulmonary antigens expressed by the tumor (2, 6).…”

“…However, weekly schedule of docetaxel reported lower incidence of myelosuppression when compared to triweekly schedule indicating that the incidence of pulmonary toxicity is more related to the delivery schedule of docetaxel rather than its dose [3,[8][9][10]. However, in our case, the patient developed pneumonitis despite the adoption of triweekly administration schedule of docetaxel thus a more keen monitoring of the patients should be conducted even if they are on a triweekly dosing schedule.…”

“…docetaxel 100 mg/m 2 and was found to be steroid resistant. The pneumonitis was worsened by other complications such as severe hypercapnia and hypoxia, bilateral pneumothorax, and reduced lung compliance because of which the patient died in the intensive care unit after 20 days of advanced ventilator supports [8].…”

“…En una serie japonesa de 392 pacientes con cáncer de pulmón de células no pequeñas se encontraron 18 episodios neumonitis para una incidencia global de 4,6% 4 . A pesar de su baja frecuencia esta complicación tiene un alto riesgo de muerte por lo que bien vale la pena conocerla; el 35% de los casos necesitan ventilación mecánica y la mortalidad general es de 42%, pero asciende al 82% en los pacientes que requieren intubación orotraqueal 5 .…”
