Leuconostoc mesenteroides subsp. suionicum subsp. nov.

Abstract: Strains LMG 8159 and LMG 11499 were reclassified by a polyphasic approach, including 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, 16S-23S rRNA intergenic spacer (IGS) sequence analysis, (GTG) 5 -PCR fingerprinting, RAPD fingerprinting, fatty acid methyl ester analysis and an analysis of phenotypic features using API 50 CH. The two strains were closely related to the type strains of the three defined subspecies of Leuconostoc mesenteroides, showing 99.7-99.9 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity, 99.2 % 16S-23S rRNA gene int… Show more

“…mesenteroides due to high 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities (>99.72%), but was reclassified as a new species of the genus Leuconostoc ( Leu . suionicum ) based on genome comparisons 2 , 19 . With the development of high-throughput and low-cost sequencing technologies, genomic information-based approaches have been extensively considered for the comprehensive understanding of metabolic properties and lifestyle traits of a microorganism.…”

“…Five LAB species were found in the long-term fermented kocho, most frequently Acetobacter pasteurianus (42%), L. plantarum (25%) and Leuconostoc mesenteroides/pseudomesenteroides (17%). L. mesenteroides can only be distinguished from L. pseudomesenteroides by polygenic sequencing, because the 16S rRNA- genes are identical to more than 99.5% (Gu et al 2012). In previous works, Leuconostoc spp.…”

“…Four primers (1254, 1281, D8635, and D14216) were used for RAPD-PCR as described previously (Akopyanz et al, 1992;Torriani et al, 1999;Gu et al, 2012). In this study, the bands from L. bulgaricus strains KLDS1.1016 and KLDS1.1028 were shown to exhibit a high concordance between the sensitive parents and the corresponding resistant mutants.…”
