“…Of the many animal models for colitis available, we selected the acetic acid‐induced colitis model because of its well‐established reproducibility and simplicity. Despite the evidence indicating the relationship between PLD and inflammatory mediators in cell‐free systems and cultured cells, 16–20 very little is known about the changes in PLD activity in whole animals under inflammatory conditions. To the best of our knowledge, we are unaware of any in vivo studies other than the present one addressing this subject.…”

“…As LTB 4 was reported to stimulate PLD, 16,17 we measured the luminal release of LTB 4 in an inflamed colon and examined whether LTB 4 contributed to the activation of mucosal PLD. In contrast to our initial hypothesis and previous reports, 16,17 however, the present study failed to detect a connection between increased PLD activity and LTB 4 concentration. This discrepancy may be due to the difference in the experimental conditions used: previous studies used cells in culture, but we used whole rats.…”

“…To stain compounds for densitometry, TLC plates with material run in parallel were either exposed to sublimed iodine (1-5 min, 25 ЊC), sprayed with 10% CuSO 4 in 8% phosphoric acid, and charred (100 ЊC for 20 min, followed by 120 ЊC for 10 min) 25 , or sprayed directly with molybdenum blue:4.2 M sulphuric acid (1:1, v/v). R f values were determined from the leading edge of each compound.…”
