“…These additional analyses strengthened the results we obtained when considering separately a given crop or animal; they enabled to explore the potential role of direct exposure to pesticides (treatments on crops, seeds and animals) and have warranted to go further in exposure assessment given the wide variety in chemical structures, modes of action and exposure modalities. In next stages of the cohort, thanks to a larger number of cases, it will be possible to explore exposure to specific pesticides assessed with the help of a French crop‐exposure matrix and to take into account the intensity of exposure thanks to algorithms derived from field observations …”

“…In a study, the dermal contamination from pesticides has been reported to be statistically correlated with physical contact with branches or any part of the vegetables during certain agricultural tasks such as harvesting, pruning, thinning, cutting or sorting. The dermal exposure was assessed using skin patches and then analyzed afterward for pesticide residues (Baldi et al, 2014). Pesticides can also vaporize into the air and affect the larger community.…”

“…A recent study conducted in France, the PESTEXPO study (40), highlighted workers' specific tasks as another important determinant regarding exposure to pesticides. Occupational exposure to pesticides, in fact, is usually associated only with the mixing of these substances, transportation, application to crops and cleaning of the equipment.…”
