Levels inTh223populated byαdecay ofU227

Abstract: Levels in 223 Th populated by the α decay of 227 U were investigated using α-γ decay spectroscopy. The 227 U isotope was produced in the fusion-evaporation reaction 22 Ne + 208 Pb at the velocity filter separator for heavy-ion reaction products at Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt (Germany). Several new excited levels and γ transitions were identified in 223 Th. An improved α-decay scheme of 227 U was suggested. The experimental α-decay energy spectrum of 227 U was compared with the Monte Ca… Show more

“…The α-decay energies (and half-lives) were found to be in agreement with those measured in Ref. [15] E lit α = 6864(3) keV, and E lit α = 6743(4) keV, here E α = 6869 (25) keV and E α = 6742(25) keV. One additional α decay was observed at an energy of E α = 7008 (25) keV which is a result of α-CE summing (also observed in the aforementioned study).…”

“…The decay of 227 U was reported in Ref. [15] which aimed to measure the excited levels in 223 Th following the α decay of 227 U. In the study discussed in this report, 5 chains could be assigned to the decay of 227 U (with one escaping event).…”

“…Therefore, it is interesting to have a closer look and see if MNT reactions might be after all the better alternative to populate the still quite empty neutron-deficient transuranium region. Figure 25 compares measured fusion residue cross-sections of various uranium isotopes [253][254][255][256][257][258][259] with the MNT cross-sections measured at SHIP [243]. Figure 25 can be regarded as a representative example because the behavior is very similar for other elements in the uranium region.…”

“…If cross-sections from Fig. 25 The product of cross-section and experimental efficiency, σ ε, for uranium isotopes measured in fusion-evaporation reactions [253][254][255][256][257][258][259] (crosses) and in MNT reactions in 48 Ca + 248 Cm [243] (open circles). For 219 U a small offset on the A value is put to avoid an overlap of the data points from complete fusion and MNT more than one experiment were available for the same isotope, we put the largest known value.…”
