“…Several investigators have reported that TIMP-1 has growth-promoting properties and might also stimulate tumour growth by inhibiting apoptosis (Holten-Andersen et al, 2002). Overexpression of TIMP-1 has been reported in colorectal cancer tissues (Murashige et al, 1996).…”

“…However, it should also be mentioned that other data have failed to demonstrate a difference in the plasma TIMP-1 levels between primary breast cancer patients and healthy controls (Holten-Andersen et al 2002). Future studies should be directed at validating the potential prognostic value of TIMP-1 measurements in plasma.…”

“…We found that combining results from the CEA assay with the anti-TAA assay increased the detection of early-stage colorectal cancer from 21.9% to 65.9% (Table 2). Similarly, a study by HoltenAnderson et al 42 has shown that combining serum CEA and metallopeptidase inhibitor 1 measurements resulted in a 66% detection frequency among early-stage colon cancer patients. Our findings demonstrated that autoantibody signatures may possess potential to supplement other serological markers for improved diagnosis of early-stage colorectal cancer, especially for CEA-negative individuals.…”
