Leveraging a phenome‐wide approach to identify novel exposure‐birth defect associations: A proof of concept using maternal smoking and a spectrum of birth defects

Abstract: Background There are often questions about the impact of exposures on a range of birth defects, but there are few rigorous approaches for evaluating these associations. Using maternal smoking as an example we applied a phenome‐wide association study (PheWAS) approach to evaluate the impact of this exposure on a comprehensive range of birth defects.
