Librarians' Awareness, Positive Attitude and ICT Skills: A Panacea for Effective Services Delivery in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4th IR) Era in Academic Libraries in Southern Nigeria

“…They concluded that university libraries face challenges such as limited budgets, insufficient expertise of librarians, limited technical infrastructure and library equipment, frequent electricity power cuts and weak attitudes of librarians and administrators towards the integration of new technologies into library operations, which requires awareness to overcome these issues and training librarians through participating in workshops and seminars, promoting interlibrary cooperation, improving budget allocation for the provision of digital technologies and hiring librarians with the necessary skills to work in the digital age. Akparobore et al (2020) also investigated the knowledge, attitudes and skills of information and communication technologies of librarians during the fourth industrial revolution in university libraries in southern Nigeria and showed that the level of knowledge of librarians about technological innovations related to the era of the fourth industrial revolution is low, and the digital transformation and digital innovations require a new generation of librarians and information professionals. There is a need to focus on the development of librarians' information and communication technology skills, including computer use skills in the library, research skills, electronic library management skills, library automation skills, office software skills, multimedia facility skills, database management and digital skills by librarians.…”
