Libraries in Internet of Things (IoT) era

Abstract: Purpose Internet of Things (IoT) has been widely adopted in the commercial sector. Although IoT enables traditional libraries to convert into digital ones, the implementation of the IoT in libraries is slow. The purpose of this paper is to report on the current state of research on applications of IoT in libraries, describe challenges that IoT applications face in libraries and discus directions of adopting IoT in libraries in the future. Design/methodology/approach To conduct this research, the literature o… Show more

“…IoT houses embedded technology to pass information or interact with both internal and external environment (Hahn, 2017). In a paper written by Liang and Chen (2018) Libraries in internet of things, explains IOT applications in libraries, future directions and challenges; and emphasizes IOT development in three stages, the World Wide Web stage, the Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 stages; which is then regarded as semantic web which allows machines to communicate directly with another machine through internet based search engines. IoT related devices are evolving from RFID in 1999 to wireless sensor networks in 2005 to Smart Things 2012 to IoT 2017 (Liang, 2018).…”

“…Fontos az is, hogy a tárgyak internete eszközöknél megteremtsük a megfelelő informatikai (kiber)biztonságot. 17 Ebből következik, hogy az okoskönyvtári fejlesztések önmagukban nem elengendőek. Üzemeltetésükhöz magasan képzett könyvtári személyzetre van szükség.…”
