Life-Cycle Assessment of Flexible Risers

Abstract: The number of flexible pipes in operation is increasing due to new field developments and the desire to extend the lifetime of existing fields. There have been many challenges with respect to long term operation of such pipes, in many cases with the need to replace or repair before the end of the initial design life. The number of identified failure mechanisms and observed failure events is also increasing. The present paper summarizes state of the art technology related to operation of flexible… Show more

“…It is important to note that during the operation of pipes transporting pressurized fluids, they can be subjected to shut-down operations, where the temperature is low due to gas expansion and pressure drop. The turning condition of the corrosion films is probably different during the component's operational life [97].…”

“…Both local and global models using AnsysR18.1 and OrcaFlex ® 10.2d [28] were developed to predict failure due to environmental and ice loading. The bending moment was extracted from OrcaFlex ® global models and applied to Ansys ACP [29] with Puck's failure criterion and maximum stress criterion. is a useful but conservative method that predicts failure when one of the many stress components along one of the principal material axes reaches the magnitude of the corresponding material yield strength in that direction.…”
