Objectives The COVID‐19 pandemic has negatively affected the lives of millions of individuals physiologically, behaviorally, socially, and/or psychologically. Moreover, there is now much empirical evidence that mental health problems have increased during the pandemic period and these problems have various consequences. The changes in the mood states of individuals due to the pandemic underpins the rationale of the present study. The aim of the study was to identify the cross‐sectional associations between fear of COVID‐19, stress, anxiety, and depression by using two stage‐meta‐analytic structural equation modeling (TS‐MASEM). Design This is a meta‐analytic structural equation modelling study. Method A systematic literature review initially identified 4840 studies. As a result of applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 25 studies comprising 28 samples (reporting 120 effect sizes) were eligible for inclusion in the current TS‐MASEM ( N = 16,452). Results The results showed significant associations between fear of COVID‐19, stress, anxiety, and depression. Additionally, the mediation role of anxiety in the association between depression and fear of COVID‐19 and stress was explored. Conclusions Although the results did not allow for causal inferences regarding depression, they provide insight into the possible consequences of fear of COVID‐19 and comorbid problems for clinicians and researchers.

ObjectiveThe study explored the prospective relations between depression and approach‐avoidance achievement goals of undergraduate students in China.Methods2473 full‐time undergraduates reported their depression and achievement goals annually from the freshman to the senior year. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and cross‐lagged models.ResultsStudents' achievement goals decreased gradually during the first 3 years but rose in the fourth year, and the avoidance goals appeared to be less prevalent than the approach goals over time. Depression was negatively associated with approach goals, whereas positively correlated with avoidance goals. Depression in the freshman and sophomore years resulted in more avoidance goals 1 year later, and the depressive problems in the junior year predicted the decline of approach goals in the senior year.ConclusionsThe present study highlighted the deleterious effects of depression on the achievement goals of college students.

Background: Stress is an important factor affecting the dynamic process of resilience. This study aimed to explore the role of stress levels in the relationship between resilience and health consequences by investigating high school students undergoing the National College Entrance Examination (CEE), which often involves intense stressful conditions for students in China, at different stages. Methods: The CD-RISC [Conner-Davidson Resiliency Scale] and SF-36 [the short form 36 health survey questionnaire, one measurement of the quality of life (QoL)] were used to investigate 435 high school students, including 208 students in grade two (low stress group) and 227 students in grade three (high stress group).Results: This study found that the SF-36 scores under high-stress conditions were significantly lower than those under low-stress conditions, however there were no significant differences in the mental resilience scores. Additionally, under low-stress conditions, mental resilience was found to be significantly correlated with various factors of SF-36, but no significant correlation was observed under high-stress conditions. It was also discovered that stress levels can mediate the relationship between psychological resilience and QoL (the quality of life).Conclusions: Stress level is an important factor affecting the expression of resilience. This study also discussed the integration of the concept of resilience.
