Lifestyle factors and risk for colorectal polyps and cancer at index colonoscopy in a FIT‐positive screening population

Abstract: In our FIT + population, lifestyle factors are significantly associated with the risk of carrying high-risk adenomas and CRC. In the future, studies could be aimed at finding better screening strategies through the development of clinical algorithms based on lifestyle changes/comorbidities.

“…Obesity has been strongly associated with precancerous lesions and conditions such as colon adenomas [68][69][70][71][72][73][74][75][76][77][78][79][80][81][82][83][84][85][86], monoclonal gammopathy [87][88][89][90][91][92][93][94][95][96][97][98], chronic pancreatitis [99][100][101][102], or inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) [103][104][105][106]. Observed risks of cancers associated with obesity include breast [107][108][109][110][111], colorectal [112][113][114][115], pancreatic [99]…”

“…Even with the continuous exploration of its research, the disease has not been fully understood. 6, 7 The evaluation of malignancy degree and prognosis of colorectal cancer is of great significance in clinical work. At present, the evaluation of malignancy degree of colorectal cancer mainly comes from TNM stage, which refers to some pathologic indicators after surgery, including whether to penetrate serosa, lymph node metastasis, other organ metastasis and peripheral adhesion.…”

“…The incidence of EOCRC has been on the rise over the past four decades and it is expected to increase by >140% by 2030. At present, different established cancer drivers have been linked to EOCRC including diet, sedentary lifestyle, smoking, and alcohol [ 63 ]. The gut microbiota is probably at the intersection of these risk factors and EOCRC.…”
