Abstract: Adaptation of photoreceptor sensitivity to varying light intensities is a fundamental requirement for retinal function and vision. Adaptive mechanisms in signal transduction are well described, but little is known about the mechanisms that adapt the photoreceptor synapse to changing light intensities.
