Light‐Induced Stored Information in Nanoparticles

Abstract: We investigate here the consequence on light-induced and thermally induced spin-crossover (SCO) properties with particle size reduction from the macroscopic to microscale to nanoscale domains. Three samples with distinct particle sizes of the SCO coordination polymer [Fe(NCS) 2 (bpe) 2 ] [bpe = 1,2-bis(4Ј-pyridyl)ethane] have been prepared by water-inoil reverse micelle methods. Comparison of the magnetic properties with particle size reduction of these and the original macroscale slow-grown crystals revealed … Show more

“…Powder X‐ray diffraction patterns of the original crystals and of crystals subjected to the thermal treatments described above reveal that the decrease in crystallite size does not markedly affect the crystal unit cell and the crystallinity of the sample. These findings are in line with previous findings for Fe II SCO nanoparticles , . The loss of crystallinity as an explanation for the magnetic behaviour observed for 1 is therefore ruled out, although SQUID, DSC, HSM and X‐ray diffraction measurements suggest that the magnetic behaviour of this compound is affected by crystallite particle size.…”

“…These compounds are usually obtained in powder or in single-crystal form, so that their integration into real devices necessitates their preparation as nano-objects as well as the knowledge of the effect of size reduction on their properties. Nevertheless, still few works evidence photoswitchable properties in nanoparticles [9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16], and the effect of size reduction on these properties remains an open question. Several CoFe Prussian blue analogue (PBA) nanoparticles were prepared [14][15][16][17][18][19][20] and a photomagnetic effect was evidenced in some of them [14][15][16].…”
