This paper presents a literature review on the subject of Condition-Based Maintenance of surge arresters. Both a bibliometric analysis and traditional comprehensive research are presented. The bibliometric analysis is useful for obtaining insights about the literature. It quantitatively highlights relationships between journals, authors and keywords (related to the monitoring methods) and reveals future trends for research based on the timeline of the keywords. The traditional comprehensive literature review is also presented. It summarizes the methods, their advantages and disadvantages and also points to some known measurement issues of the methods. Both online (leakage current, harmonic components, temperature, partial discharges, power loss and the counting of discharges) and offline (reference voltage, residual voltage, insulation resistance, polarization/depolarization, return voltage, microscopy, spectrometry, X-ray, RUS and the recent application of FRA) methods have been qualitatively analyzed.

An Improved Sum of Squared Difference Algorithm for Automated Distance Measurement

In recent years, with improvement of photoelectric conversion efficiency and accuracy, photoelectric sensor was arranged to simulate binocular stereo vision for 3D measurement, and it has become an important distance measurement method. In this paper, an improved sum of squared difference (SSD) algorithm which can use binocular cameras to measure distance of vehicle ahead was proposed. Firstly, consistency matching calibration was performed when images were acquired. Then, Gaussian blur was used to smooth the image, and grayscale transformation was performed. Next, the Sobel operator was used to detect the edge of images. Finally, the improved SSD was used for stereo matching and disparity calculation, and the distance value could be obtained corresponding to each point. Experimental results showed that the improved SSD algorithm had an accuracy rate of 95.06% when stereo matching and disparity calculation were performed. This algorithm fully meets the requirements of distance measurement.

Automatic reading of pointer meters is of great significance for efficient measurement of industrial meters. However, existing algorithms are defective in the accuracy and robustness to illumination shooting angle when detecting various pointer meters. Hence, a novel algorithm for adaptive detection of different pointer meters was presented. Above all, deep learning was introduced to detect and recognize scale value text in the meter dial. Then, the image was rectified and meter center was determined based on text coordinate. Next, the circular arc scale region was transformed into a linear scale region by polar transform, and the horizontal positions of pointer and scale line were obtained based on secondary search in the expanded graph. Finally, the distance method was used to read the scale region where the pointer is located. Test results showed that the algorithm proposed in this paper has higher accuracy and robustness in detecting different types of meters.
