Lightning Impulse Breakdown Characteristic of Dry-Air/Silicone Rubber Hybrid Insulation in Rod-Plane Electrode

Abstract: -Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) gas is used widely in electric power equipment such as Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), Gas Insulation transmission Line (GIL), and Gas Circuit Breaker (GCB). But applications of SF6 should be restricted because SF6 gas is one of the greenhouse effect gases. To reduce use of SF6 gas, a study on eco-friendly alternative insulation medium is needed. In this paper, we investigated lightning impulse (LI) breakdown of dry-air which is attracting attention as an ecofriendly alternative gas … Show more

“…Several experimental investigations were introduced by other for determining the optimum characteristics of DB. Also, the effect of DB on the electric field distribution in case of high impulse, DC and AC voltage [11]- [13]. In addition, different mathematical models were presented to describe the field distribution in the case of the existence of DB in the field gap [4], [5], [14].…”

“…Natural gases are used mainly in medium-and low-voltage equipment. However, owing to the low insulation performance, reasonable methods are required to increase the insulation performance, such as increasing the pressure of the gas chamber, increasing the size of the equipment, and using a combination of gas and solid insulation [2][3][4]. Optimising the structure of the equipment can increase the production cost.…”
