Lignans and clerodane diterpenoids from Tinospora sinensis

Abstract: Four previously undescribed compounds including a tetrahydrofuran lignan (1), a 7,9′-dinorlignan glucoside (2), and two clerodane diterpenoid glucosides (3–4), together with 18 known compounds were isolated from Tinospora sinensis.

“…In recent years, lignans in Dendrobium have been reported, and dozens of components have been extracted, isolated and identified from various Dendrobium species such as D. officinale , D. huoshanense , D. nobile , D. fmbriatum and D. chrysanthum 7 . Tetrahydrofuran (THF) lignans, aryl tetrahydronaphthalene lignans and 8‐ O ‐4′‐neolignans are the main skeletons and their structural types are similar to those of Acanthopanax senticosus , 8 Eucommia ulmoides 9 and Tinospora sinensis 10,11 . However, most of the literature is limited to the structural elucidation and/or bioactivity of isolated compounds or even a single compound.…”

Only a few studies have relied on chromatographic profiling, such as liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry 12,13 or gas chromatography-mass spectrometry 14 or HPLC coupled with multiple-stage tandem mass spectrometry using electrospray ionization (HPLC-ESI-MS n ), 15,16 to obtain more comprehensive results, but numerous minor constituents remained undetected.…”
