Lignification of the plant and related aspects of soaking seeds and soybean pod of RR and conventional cultivars

Abstract: There has been great speculation about differential responses of transgenic and conventional cultivars of soybean lignin content in its stem, pod and seeds. Each characteristic is associated with the soaking of seeds and pods. Increase of weight of intact soybean seeds and pods at different soaking periods and their relation to the lignin contents in RR and conventional soybean plants was determined. Samples of 20 pods and 50 seeds from the conventional cultivars, Jataí, Celeste, and Conquista and their respec… Show more

“…Studies showed that lignin is one of the most important seeds contents related to the resistance of the soybean seeds to pathogens and to absorb water. According to Gris et al (2016), the seeds impermeability afforded by lignin has a significant effect on the capacity and speed of water absorption.…”

“…There is a strong positive correlation between accelerated aging and first-count germination and germination (Table 2). According to some authors, lignin may be associated with susceptibility to mechanical damage Kuchlan et al, 2018), potential deterioration (Baldoni et al, 2013), water absorption capacity, water absorption speed, and impermeability, among others (Gris, Von Pinho, Carvalho, Diniz, & Andrade, 2016;Abati et al, 2022). Also, it may be correlated with electrical conductivity (Panobianco, Vieira, Krzyzanowski, & França Neto, 1999).…”
