Abstract:Synthetic biology is revolutionizing our approaches to biocomputing, diagnostics, and environmental monitoring through the use of designed genetic circuits that perform a function within a single cell. More complex functions can be performed by multiple cells that coordinate as they perform different subtasks. Cell−cell communication using molecular signals is particularly suited for aiding in this communication, but the number of molecules that can be used in different communication channels is limited. scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
